How To Find Out If There Is A Tree Preservation Order On Your Tree.

Updated: Jun 24, 2019

Tree preservation orders are effectively covenants which can be put on trees to prohibit their removal. Of course this is something that will need to be taken into account if you are interested in booking a tree removal service from your local tree surgeon. If a tree with a tree preservation order (TPO) on it is removed without consent then this is a prosecutable act which can lead to hefty fines and even prison time. The person who removes the treeis the one who is prosecuted and so as a rule, tree surgeons like to check this out themselves. If you wish to find out if there is a TPO on a tree then all you need to do is contact your local council. It can be surprising which trees carry a TPO, because anybody can apply for a TPO on any tree, they don't have to own it, or have anything to do with it.
